Sulphidising agents are applied during oxide mineral flotation so that thiol collectors such as xanthate can be applied to recovery oxide Cobalt and Copper. Controlled Potential Sulphidisation (CPS) is the preferred application of these reagents, although slug dosage is also commonly used. Ammonium sulphate, sulphidising promotor, also assist with improved adsorption of Sulphide ions during sulphidisation.
MagChem 40 AH: A high purity, light burned magnesium oxide produced from magnesium-rich brine and dolomitic lime. This fine white powder has a very high reactivity index and a low bulk density. USES: MagChem 40 AH is well suited for metal recovery processes from mining operations such as cobalt, nickel, and copper. Its high purity and high reactivity provide effective metal precipitation with optimum metal recovery.

This has shown an increase in recovery of fine particles (< 25µm) and this is attributed to its effect on the behaviour of the froth phase. When used in dual-collector reagent suites with xanthates, the recovery of free gold and gold-bearing sulphides is markedly improved. As the silver content of the gold surface increases, DGQ4 adsorption increases dramatically. Research has concluded that the addition of DGQ4 results in a more stable froth phase in addition to the synergistic interactions between the reagent and primary xanthate collector – hence the improved floatation performance.
MGQ2 adsorption occurs on pure gold surfaces as both monomeric and dimeric species. MGQ2 has a higher affinity for gold particles with low silver content, thus using the collector in low silver grade ore results in improved recoveries. It is an alternative to the conventional xanthate collectors and requires lower dosages to obtain high recoveries in sulphide-mineral flotation.

This is very beneficial when dealing with non-sulphide PGMs, such as tellurides and arsenides that have slow flotation kinetics. Benefits are: improved grades, rejection of iron-impurities and very low doses.
A liquid sulphide collector that can be used as a complete replacement or as a secondary collector with xanthates. The minimum interaction between the DPG4 collector and mineral surface is sufficient to impart hydrophobicity to the mineral surface. The residual DPG4 collector molecules aggregates onto the bubble-particle interphase. This process stabilises the agglomerate, resulting in higher concentrate grades. When DPG4 is used as a secondary collector, the collector adsorbs on strong sites and the xanthate adsorbs on the remaining weaker sites on the sulphide mineral surface. This results in a greater surface coverage, thereby enhancing the adsorption of xanthate onto sulphide minerals and improving the PGM recovery.
In an alkaline circuit, flotation reagent is more selective against iron sulphides and displays weak collective power towards pyrite. In relation to the PGM industry, a key characteristic of the collectors is its fast kinetics contribution which is key when dealing with the slow floating minerals. The liquid nature of the product significantly improves the shelf life and adds to the ease of dosing as no additional make-up is required.
Talc is a naturally floating gangue mineral found in PGM ores and has a hydrophobic nature that increases with milling intensity. As a result, talc is a major concern for PGM producers who are mandated with fine grind milling. Revadep Tal-D adsorbs onto the talc surface, making the surface hydrophilic, thus reporting to the tailings and improving the grade of the concentrate.
